About

Robert G Wells (Bob)
I was born in Dumfries and brought up in Amisfield, a small village 5 miles north of the town, and have lived in that area until 2010 when I moved to Ely, Cambridgeshire.

I have been a painter for many years and initially attended summer schools and various courses studying under Melville Brotherston, Jack Skinner and Sandy Robb.

I am still a full member of Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society and have, in the past, served on their committee for many years. I am now also a member of Cambridge Open Studios when I open my studio for 4 weekends in July as part of the large festival.

Now that I am retired I have more time for my art and I have converted my garage into a Studio/Gallery. While I paint most days in my studio I prefer to paint in front of the subject and can often be seen in and around Ely with my easel or sketch book. As well as enjoying the painting I love meeting people who often like to stop and chat.

I sell regularly usually to people visiting my gallery and I have completed several commissions on various subjects. I open my studio gallery during Cambridge Open Studios each July and I have several works hanging in the Royal Standard Hotel on the Forehill in Ely.

I work in most mediums and like to produce bold colourful images. I sketch and paint outdoors in an effort to make a more spontaneous and less contrived picture. I highlight the points I find interesting rather than looking for a photographic reproduction of the subject.
